Wiggles - Adoption Fee $150 the Dog Success
I came to Pet Savers with a different name. They quickly renamed me because I am just a sweet little wiggle worm! I'm an 8 month old pure-bred poodle. My owner contacted Pet Savers because she is disabled and cannot care for me. She's on oxygen and I keep chewing through her oxygen tubes while she's sleeping and I keep getting into the road because she can't go outside with me. When Pet Savers returned her call, my mommy told them a breeder was coming to get me that evening. My mommy told Pet Savers that the breeder said I would be kept in a small kennel until I was sold. My mommy and I were both very happy that Pet Savers was able to take me in. I'm about 10 pounds right now and will get a little bigger when by the time I'm all grown up. I have a friendly, social temperament and get along with all animals and people. I'm neutered and up-to-date on shots. I'll be heartworm tested soon, but I'm young and Pet Savers will start me on heartworm preventive immediately. I'm somewhat housetrained, but will need some work because my mommy hasn't been able to be consistent with me. I travel well, but haven't really been on a leash that much. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application. Applying to adopt a pet, does NOT commit you to the adoption until you meet the pet. Please note: If you're not approved, you do have other options to adopt to include your local animal control (kill shelter) where you will likely save a life… or click on "Dogs not in shelter" on our website.  Sir Charles - Fee $150 the Dog Success
Sir Charles was found limping down the side of a desolate road on the outskirts of Shreveport on December 16, 2011. The couple that picked him up said he appeared to have given up hope and surrendered himself to them when they stopped to pick him up. Not knowing what to do, they called animal control, where they were told he would be put to sleep immediately. They came to Pet Savers for help. Pet Savers instructed the couple to take Sir Charles to Pet Savers' vet immediately, which they did. It appears that Sir Charles was either hit by a car or thrown from a car. He's been fending for himself for a while because the wounds on his face are now infected, as you can see from the puss around his mouth area. His hind end also has severe road rash. It is difficult for him to breath because of the damage to his mouth and nose. Dr. Rachal, the vet at Southern Hills Animal Hospital, said she estimates him to be 4-5 years old. Dr. Rachal expects him to recover but he will need strong antibiotics and possibly some reconstructive surgery on his nose as it appears that part of his nasal cavity has been severely damaged. We don't know yet what the total vet expense will be for Sir Charles, but we are starting off with a $500 Chipin... as we do know it will be at least that and more. Please help Pet Savers help Sir Charles this holiday season. You can donate several ways: 1. Donate via Sir Charles' Chipin account 2. Donate via our website via Just Give 3. Bring your donation to Pet Savers at 4380 Noyes Drive, Shreveport, La., any day between 12-4pm. 4. Mail your donation to 632 Dudley Drive, Shreveport, La. 71104. 5. Make your donation directly to Southern Hills Animal Hospital at 318-686-5945. Thank you for your support and concern for those who have no voice. Sir Charles adopted 1/12.

One word... STUNNING!! That's what I keep hearing from the visitors, volunteers, and staff at Pet Savers. I was born on May 31, 2011, and I'm a super-sweet and playful Collie/Australian Shepherd mix. I'm gorgeous inside and out. My owner contacted Pet Savers for help because she is going through many unsettling events right now and cannot care for me any longer. I am fully house and crate trained. I know how to sit, shake paws, lay down, and roll over on command and especially for a treat. I can catch treats mid-air too. I love rawhides and love to play fetch with a tennis ball. I do fairly well on a leash and I ride very well in a car. I love people and LOVE to play with other dogs of all sizes. I'm about 40 pounds right now and will likely top out at about 50-55 pounds when I'm all grown up. I'm completely up-to-date on my shots and heartworm and flea preventive. I'll be spayed the the week of December 26th, 2011. I have a lot of energy and ideally, would love a home with other dogs and an active family. As with all the dogs at Pet Savers, I will go only to a responsible, caring home. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application.  Bongo - Adoption Fee $125 the Dog Success
I'm a super-sweet 3 1/2 year old SHAVED DOWN Westie. I came to Pet Savers with "Bingo" (both of our names have been changed) when our mommy needed to get out of an abusive relationship. Our mommy is elderly and has been in her abusive situation for four years. She could not get out until she was sure we were safe. Pet Savers can't help out every situation and is always full, but they knew they'd be able to find a home for us fairly quickly, so they squeezed us in. "Squeeze" being the optimum word, because we are a little on the chunky side. Other than being a little overweight, we were very well taken care of by our mommy. We are both neutered, up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, and have always been on heartworm and flea preventive. We get regular groomings and this is my "shaved down" look. We are both housetrained via a doggie door. We both travel well, walk well on a leash, don't mind bad weather, and neither of us are destructive. I'm about 20 pounds, give or take... (maybe a little more give, than take). I have a sweet temperament, get along with other dogs, and am very social. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application.  I'm a super-sweet 3 year old pure-bred Schnauzer. I came to Pet Savers with "Bongo" (both of our names have been changed) when our mommy needed to get out of an abusive relationship. Our mommy is elderly and has been in her abusive situation for four years. She could not get out until she was sure we were safe. I have a sweet temperament, get along with other dogs, and am very social. I'm a bit more high-energy than Bongo, typical of my Schnauzer breed.  Templeton - Adoption Fee $125 the Dog Success
 Video link
I'm a very sweet and docile 5 year old apricot miniature poodle. I'm quiet and gentle. I have what appears to be dry-eyes where I need artificial tears put into my eyes throughout the day. As a result of my dry-eyes, I am going blind. Pet Savers is sending me to their vet to get a better diagnosis, though. My former name was Ceasar, but Pet Savers changed my name to Templeton, after Alec Templeton, a pianist blind from birth who never let his sight deter him from doing what he wanted to do. My former owners say I also have skin issues and I take a 1/2 benadryl everyday to help with that. I've now been brought up-to-date on my shots and will be heartworm tested and neutered the week of November 28th, 2011. I'm housetrained (according to my former owners) and get along with other dogs and cats. I travel well and am not destructive. I'm VERY sweet and have a VERY SWEET disposition. I would make someone a loyal and loving companion. I was surrendered to Pet Savers because the new landlord doesn't allow pets and my owners also didn't have time to care for me any longer. Ideally, I would like a home that is quiet and peaceful. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application. I'm a sweet and small 3-5 year old Boston Terrier. I was found at a rest area just outside of Natchitoches, La. It was if someone had just dumped me there. I'm only about 10 pounds and have a super-sweet disposition. I get along great with other dogs and cats. I'm very social and responsive, without being too hyper. I'm now up-to-date on shots and will be heartworm tested and spayed the week of November 28th, 2011. I'm not sure if I'm housetrained, but I know I'm smart enough to learn. I have some missing fur, which is probably the result of the fleas that were all over me. With the proper care, my fur will grow back. I'm having a ball at Pet Savers. There is so much activity and so many other animals to play with. I'd love a home with other animals. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application. I'm a one year old super-sweet, super-playful pure-bred Westie. I was brought to Pet Savers because my owner is going in the hospital for major back surgery and is afraid he won't be able to take care of me. He wants me to find a great home, though, so here I am at Pet Savers. I'm about 15 pounds, up-to-date on shots, and have always been on heartworm preventive. I'm scheduled to be neutered the week of November 28th, 2011. I get along FABULOUSLY with other dogs! I don't mind cats either, but I do like to chase them a little. I've been through obedience training, so I do know some basic commands, but like any good terrier, I have a low attention span. I play fetch and will even bring it back to you. I travel well, walk well on a leash, and bad weather does not upset me. Heck, nothing really upsets me. I'm just a friendly, go-lucky little guy. I sleep in a kennel at night, and am used to using potty pads. I am not destructive. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application.  Bentley - Adoption Fee $125 the Dog Success
I was found in the middle of the road by a woman. She picked me up and took me to the side of the road, thinking I lived nearby... then reluctantly continued on her way. She didn't get far, though, and turned around. There I was, standing right back in the middle of the road. She scooped me up and took me with her. It's a good thing that she did, too!! I was heavily matted, covered in fleas and ticks, very thin and pretty-much had given up. The woman that rescued me is a really nice lady, having many rescues of her own. She brought me to Pet Savers to see if they could help. They sent me directly to the vet... where it was determined that I had a healed broken jaw. Because there were no other healed injuries, Pet Savers' vet thinks someone purposely broke my jaw. I can eat ok, but I do need tiny bits of food mixed possibly with some wet food. I've now been neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm tested. I AM heartworm positive (no surprise there)... so, I need a home that understands heartworms! If you don't, don't apply. I'm about 4 years old, according to the vet and about 12 pounds. I'm super-sweet, get along great with other dogs (just like any good Shih Tzu)... and cats, and love being around people. I currently reside in and out of the office at Pet Savers with some of the other residents. I'm not sure if I'm housetrained or if I've ever even lived inside a home for that matter. An adopter that has the time and patience to properly train me is required. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application. Applying to adopt a pet, does NOT commit you to the adoption until you meet the pet.  It's either here or the pound!" is what the man said when he came to Pet Savers with me. Pet Savers is always full and for someone to be so heartless as to threaten the pound to the tireless, devoted rescuers at Pet Savers, is just unforgivable... but it does happen. Threats often don't work... because try as they might, Pet Savers just cannot save all of the homeless animals in this area. What people don't understand is that thousands of animals are euthanized monthly at the local kill shelters. Why? Because there is no room to house all of them. Pet Savers is a no-kill shelter... which means our space is always very limited. If people would be responsible and spay/neuter their pets, we wouldn't have such a huge overpopulation and euthanasia problem in this area. I wish humans would be more responsible. Now, about me: I'm a super-cute, super-sweet 9-12 month old Eskimo Spitz. I'm a little girl at only about 15 pounds or so. I'm up-to-date on shots now and will be spayed and heartworm tested the week of November 7th, 2011. I get along great with other dogs and cats... and have a friendly, outgoing personality. When I came in, I was covered in fleas and had some ticks... but after a bath and some topical, that's been taken care of. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application. Applying to adopt a pet, does NOT commit you to the adoption until you meet the pet.  I have had such a hard and sad life. My first 3 and 1/2 years it is believed I was used for breeding... kenneled constantly, with little or no human contact. When I was finally released from that prison, I went to someone who kept me for three months and then put me on Craigslist. I was then taken in by a woman who really didn't understand that because of my past, I probably wouldn't be trusting of children. She has several grandchildren that come around and it is just too much for me emotionally. I love my adult owners and sleep with the husband every night. I'm quiet and shy. I get along with other dogs and don't mind cats either. Pet Savers wants to make sure that my next home is a permanent home, with no children. They want to make sure that I go to a responsible, loving, and caring home. I'm grateful that they saw something in me that I don't see in myself. With the right love and attention, Pet Savers knows I will make a very loyal and loving pet. I travel very well and walk very well on a leash. I am not destructive, but I tend to like to chew on paper. Pet Savers says it's probably because my breeder kennel was layered in paper. I'm somewhat housetrained with the right consistency in letting me out. My current owner brought me to Pet Savers in hopes that they could take me in. Pet Savers is very full but is going to try to find me a home via the internet. If I can't find a home that way, they will take me at the shelter, but it will be 2-3 weeks. I'm a pure-bred miniature Schnauzer. I'm a little bitty girl at only about 8 pounds. I'm up-to-date on K-9 shots (but still need a rabies vaccination)... and I'm heartworm negative. My adoption fee includes a $50 voucher to get me spayed, which is a condition of adopting me. Once I come to Pet Savers, I will be spayed before adoption. Adopted 10/11.

Gracie - Adoption Fee $125 the Dog Success
I was at a truck stop in Rocky Mount, La., taking cover under an 18 wheeler. The truck driver of the 18 wheeler was getting ready to leave when he spotted me. I was scared, alone, hungry, and thirsty. He pondered for several minutes what to do. Finally, he decided he just could not leave me there... and scooped me up and drove me to Pet Savers. Pet Savers was very full... but thankfully, a volunteer for Pet Savers agreed to keep me until room is available at the shelter. Based upon my teeth, I appear to be about a year old. I'm little and weigh probably 7-9 pounds. I was covered in fleas, but that's been taken care of. I'll be heading to Pet Savers' vet for spaying, heartworm testing, a shave-down and the rest of my shots the week of October 17, 2011. I appear to be a Brussels Griffon... maybe even a pure-bred. I'm friendly and social and get along great with other dogs and even cats. I'll be staying with Pet Savers' volunteer for a little while longer, but you are welcome to apply to adopt me. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application.
