Little Bit -Adoption Fee $125 the Dog
My name is Little Bit. I'm a SUPER-CUTE 4-6 year old Pomeranian mix. I wandered up to my rescuer's property about 5 weeks ago. They've tried to find my owners, but couldn't. I was COVERED in fleas and ticks and heavily matted. My rescuers took really good care of me while I was with them, but they have an older dog that did not like having me around... nor did their cat. They brought me to Pet Savers. The ladies at Pet Savers met me and it was love at first sight! I appear to have some type of neurological problem where I kind of turn my head to one side and walk a little funny... BUT I have the sweetest temperament. I was allowed to walk around the office and meet some of the dogs and cats and didn't cause any problems. According to my rescuers, I can't bark. I try to bark, but nothing comes out. I travel well and I am not destructive, nor do I dig. I am housetrained to a pee pad, but know that with consistency, I could learn to be housetrained. I'm definitely an unusual little dog. Pet Savers will post an update about me once they get to know me a little better. I should be back from the vet around January 20th. I was sent there for spaying, rabies vaccination, and heartworm testing. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application. Applying to adopt a pet, does NOT commit you to the adoption until you meet the pet. Please note: If you're not approved, you do have other options to adopt to include your local animal control (kill shelter) where you will likely save a life… or click on "Dogs not in shelter" on our website.  Prince William - Adoption Fee $125 the Dog
Prince William is a 3 year old, 16 pound Bichon mix. Pet Savers first heard about him a couple of months ago when a woman came by indicating she wanted to rehome her dog because she didn't have time for him anymore. We were full at the time, but told the young woman that we would place him on several websites for adoption. She sent us a picture of him to post and he was a beautiful, well-groomed Bichon and appeared to be in great condition. After a couple of months and no responses, the woman contacted Pet Savers to see if we could take him and we said "yes". When Prince William (his name was changed) arrived on December 16th, 2011, we were shocked! We expected a well-cared-for Bichon... but that's not what came in. Prince William came in emaciated, missing a good bit of his fur, and with severely infected ears. He was delivered in a small kennel just barely enough to fit his size and we were told that is where he spent most of his day and night. He smelled of urine and feces, was matted and was physically and emotionally a sad case. We can't understand how someone could sit by and watch as their once beloved pet becomes emaciated, with drainage from ear infections causing mats under his ear flaps with a smell that would knock someone out. How can someone sit and watch this precious animal sit in a kennel and not feed him, not deal with the ear infections, not care. We hope that person never brings an animal into their life again because a pet is a commitment for life, a commitment to feed, care for, and love. In any case, he is in good hands now. He is up-to-date on shots and heartworm negative. He'll be going to the vet the week of December 19th, 2011, for neutering, to deal with his ear problems, and for a grooming. He needs to be housetrained, but he does get along with other dogs and cats and since arriving at Pet Savers, he LOVES it. He gets a lot of attention and pampering. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt Prince Charles, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application. Applying to adopt a pet, does NOT commit you to the adoption until you meet the pet. Please note: If you're not approved, you do have other options to adopt to include your local animal control (kill shelter) where you will likely save a life… or click on "Dogs not in shelter" on our website.  Daisy - Adoption Fee $80 the Dog
I came to Pet Savers in January of 2010, because of a divorce situation. When I originally came to Pet Savers, I was very timid and scared. I was timid around strangers, but warmed up nicely to the staff and volunteers. I was adopted shortly after my arrival, but was returned because I didn't understand the small child in the home. Small children and dogs don't mix and Pet Savers is very leery of adopting any of their dogs to homes with small children unless there are parents in the picture that teach their children how to behave around a dog. So many dogs lose their lives everyday because of something a small child did that resulted in the dog being taken to a kill-shelter. I currently live in an over-sized kennel with Beth and Beairdsly. I'm the smallest of the three and get along great with them all. I don't potty in my kennel, which leads Pet Savers to believe that I would be easily housetrained. Ideally, I'd love a home where there is one other dog, my size or larger. I'm about 3 years old and a Golden Retriever/lab mix. I'm small at only about 30 pounds. I'm spayed, up-to-date on shots, and heartworm negative. Won't you please give me a chance at a forever home? If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application.  Beth - Adoption Fee $80 the Dog
I came to Pet Savers December 2009, with my daughter, Baby Lyssa. We were found along a roadway and rescued by some individuals. My daughter was adopted about a year later, leaving me behind. I have a docile, calm, nurturing temperament. I reside in an over-size kennel with two younger dogs, Daisy and Beairdsly. I'm the more mature dog of the group, but I do have a playful side as well. I do not potty in my kennel, which leads Pet Savers to believe that I would be easily housetrained. I'm about 5 years old, spayed, up-to-date on all shots, and heartworm negative. I am approximately 70 pounds (give or take) and according to the vet, I appear to be a Fox Red Labrador Retriever. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON I should not have a home by now. I am very responsive and smart. Labs are known for being extremely loyal and they are the most popular dog to have as a pet in the world! Won't you please give me a chance to bring love and companionship into your life? If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application. Applying to adopt a pet, does NOT commit you to the adoption until you meet the pet. Please note: If you're not approved, you do have other options to adopt to include your local animal control (kill shelter) where you will likely save a life… or click on "Dogs not in shelter" on our website. Thank you for looking! Woof Woof! Pet Savers' shelter. Adopted 1/12. Update: Beth was adopted 1/7/12 and returned on 1/10/12. She was in a home just long enough for us learn a few things about her. She was returned because when walking her on a leash in new environments, she gets frightened. She also gets car sick. The adopter is an avid jogger and traveler and Beth simply was not suitable for his lifestyle. He did offer us some valuable information and claimed “Beth is a wonderful dog that would make someone a wonderful pet!”. We learned that Beth is an excellent crated dog. She was crated for 2-3 hours at a time and did not try to escape, she did not whine, and slept most of the time. At night, when crated, she slept through the night. She is COMPLETELY HOUSETRAINED! He did catch her digging once and chewing; however, she stopped immediately when she was corrected. During the time she was with her adopter, she did not bark not once. She’s never been much of a barker at the shelter either. Ideally, Beth would do wonderfully in a home where someone is home more often than not. Someone who has the patience to walk her and get her adjusted new things... or a home where the person would like just having a pet and is not much of a walker. Beth has a calming demeanor. She just needs the “right” owner. If you think that’s you, please e-mail us for an application.

LEG SURGERY COST TO PET SAVERS $1,100
Donations needed... information below.

video | donate towards my surgery | more pictures of me

I am one lucky little girl. I was rescued from a kill shelter south of Shreveport. I was scheduled to be euthanized because I needed expensive surgery on my hind legs. Pet Savers was told about me and well, here I am. I'm a teeny-tiny 4 pound Chihuahua. I have something wrong with my knees that they call "floating knee caps." I was told if I didn't have the surgery, I would end up crippled later in life. Pet Savers is paying for my new lease on life.

You see, when Pet Savers takes in an animal... they take on the responsibility of the animal... financially and emotionally. Whoever had me before I ended up at the pound, decided I wasn't worth the cost of the surgery that I needed. Pet Savers tries to educate people that bringing a pet into your life should never be taken lightly. Humans should consider all aspects of taking care of a pet... not just the fun and cuddly times... but in times of hardship, sickness, injury, etc. Would you throw your child away or a family member if they needed leg surgery? Of course, not. A four-legged pet should be no different. If, to you, there is a difference... then you really shouldn't bring a pet into your life.

My first knee surgery will be on November 7th, 2011, and then 6-8 weeks later, I'll have my second surgery on my other leg. During my first surgery, I'll be spayed. University Veterinary Hospital is performing my surgery. I'm 2-3 years old according to the vet. I'm up-to-date on shots and heartworm negative. I'm somewhat dominant (little dog syndrome), but do get along well with dogs of all sizes... big, small, young or old. I am in foster care and happily my foster mommy has fallen in love with me and decided to adopt me!

Bella - Fee $125 the Dog
I'm a super-cute, super-sweet 7 month old Papillion mix. I was rescued from a kill-shelter where I was brought in as a stray. I'm a little girl at about 12 pounds or so, and shouldn't get too much bigger. I'm up-to-date on shots and heartworm negative. I have a sweet, submissive temperament. I'm currently living with Honey, the Chihuahua. She's dominant and I let her have her way, even though I'm about 3 times bigger than she. We both came from the same place. I'll be heading to be spayed on November 3rd, 2011, and then be ready for adoption. I get along great with other dogs... big and small, young and old. I love to give kisses and cuddle. Adopted 11/11. Update: Bella was adopted on 11/7/11 and returned 1/18/12. Bella is a sweet, submissive girl; however, there is one thing about her that we feel in the right home, Bella could overcome. She is a screamer! When she first arrived at Pet Savers, we heard her doing this and at first, thought she was being attacked or was hurt. That is not the case. She eventually calmed down at our shelter and rarely screamed, but according to her adopter, her screaming never ceased and they opted to return her. Ideally, Bella needs a home with an adopter that is willing to work with her and help her to overcome her anxiety. If you’d like to meet her, you are welcome to come out any day between 12-4pm (gates close at 4pm). If you wish to apply to adopt her, please follow the instructions above

I came to Pet Savers just before they were closing on Sunday, 10/23/11. I was found on Dogwood Trail in Haughton by a couple who at first, thought I was a dead fox. When they stopped to take a closer look, they realized I was alive and I was a small, young dog. I was emaciated, covered in fleas, and on death's door. My nails were very long as if I'd been in a confined area for a prolonged time. They put me in a cardboard box and not knowing what to do and because it was a Sunday, they drove me out to Pet Savers for help. Pet Savers was full (as usual), but they could not turn me away. I was one of the most pitiful cases of neglect they'd ever seen. I truly had lost all hope and surrendered what I thought was to be my last breath, to them. Pet Savers started off by giving me a pill to rid my body of the infestation of fleas. My gums were white from anemia and I was a skeleton of a puppy. When they would pick me up, I would whimper from pain. Pet Savers made me comfortable for the night with some food, water, and some blankets to keep my frail body warm. The following week, I was posted on Facebook with a plea for help to raise funds for my care. One of Pet Savers wonderful and caring supporters, Cindy, saw my plea and she came to get me, took me to Dr. Treadwell, a local internal medicine veterinarian... where I was examined and treated at no charge. Dr. Treadwell said I was half the weight I should be, suffering from dehydration, severe anemia from the fleas... but more importantly, she said I would be ok. She said my organs were not damaged from the starvation, which was Pet Savers' main concern. She gave me some vitamin shots which was difficult, because I had no muscle mass or fat. They trimmed my long nails and gave me a soothing bath. The bath water was red from all the flea dirt and blood. They sent me back to Pet Savers with some special food and a report that I'm going to be fine once I get back to a normal weight. During everything that everyone did to me, I've been patient, sweet, and gentle... giving small kisses... and laying my head in my caregivers palms as if to say "thank you". I enjoy my mixture of canned and dry food prepared for me specially everyday by the ladies at Pet Savers. I enjoy my regular visits from the staff, volunteers, and visitors as I recover in my large kennel where I'm isolated from the other dogs until I'm better and can be vaccinated. Pet Savers thought long and hard about what to name me. They wanted my name to be special, because I'm so special. After my rescuers left, Miss Ninna looked at the surrender form... thinking she'd like to name me somehow after the people who rescued me. "Meeker!"... she said. "Their last name is Meeker... and that shall be his name." Dr. Treadwell put me in her system as "Meeker Savers". "Meeker" for my rescuers, and "Savers" for Pet Savers because they took me in. I'm a 6 month old Rat Terrier/Corgi mix of some sort. Currently, I weigh about 8 pounds, give or take... but should weigh about 14-16 pounds. I'll likely be no more than 20 pounds when I'm fully grown. I'll be neutered and vaccinated when I'm better. If all goes well, I should be ready for adoption around the first part of December, 2011. Thank you to all the people who donated towards my care and/or who shared their concern and well wishes for me. Thank you to Cindy and Dr. Treadwell... and thank you from me, Meeker, to the "Meekers" for stopping to take a closer look. You can see my entire album of pictures on Facebook. Note: If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt Meeker, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application.  TKO!! I bet I knocked you out with my over-the-top cuteness, huh!? There are 7 of us, born to a stray Boston Terrier. A nice family took us in, but they cannot keep us! They brought all of us to Pet Savers to see if they would help, but Pet Savers is always full. They agreed to take 3 of the puppies. The other four went home with our rescuers. They need homes too... and you can reach our rescuer, Perry, at 318-286-6697 to meet them. Their adoption does not go through Pet Savers, nor does it include a voucher. Pet Savers took in the 3 smallest of the litter... and I was one of the lucky ones. We are about 6 weeks old. We've had our first set of shots and have been dewormed. We will likely be on the small side. We are not sure who our father is, but we are teeny-tiny puppies. Our adoption fee comes with a $50 voucher to get us spayed/neutered when we come of age. If you'd like to apply to be approved to adopt me, please email petsavers@petsaversshreveport.org for an adoption application. Please note: If you're not approved, you do have other options to adopt to include your local animal control (kill shelter) where you will likely save a life... or click on "Dogs not in shelter" on our website. Update: 11/11/11 – The more I grow up, the more I look like a Boston Terrier/pit mix. As a result, you must have a living arrangement where a pit mix is allowed (i.e., own your home). We are super-playful and friendly and waiting for our perfect home!
