This is Bayou who is a four-year-old male multi-poo or cockapoo mix with a soft coat and even softer heart hiding underneath his fear. Bayou came to the shelter as owner surrender through no fault of his own. Since arriving, he’s been very scared and unsure of his surroundings. When he feels overwhelmed, he can react defensively and he’s even bitten a couple of staff members. Because of this, you will need to be a very patient experienced adopter who understands fearful dogs and is willing to give him the time and space he needs to feel safe.
The good news? There’s a sweet dog in there. Bayou has been pad and once he trust you, he shows glimpses of a gentle and loving companion. Bayou does play well with other smaller dogs. He is neutered and up-to-date on all vaccines, and heartworm negative. Bayou would do best in a calm, quiet adult only household. He needs someone who is experienced with shy or reactive dog, and willing to go slow to let him come out of his shell at his own pace. This little guy isn’t “easy” , but he’s worth it . Dogs like Bayou don’t need perfect homes- they need understanding ones. If you have the patience to help Bayou feel safe again., you could be the person who changes his whole world.
